Week two consisted of reading more poetry and connecting the poems to music. Although I never really thought of poetry being musical before, the in-class assignments helped me better understand the use of music for each poem.
This week our class was introduced to the Blues Theme. I have realized that all poetry is a way one can express his/her feelings. This type of poetry can be about simple love, struggles, etc. I found it rather difficult trying to come up with a theme to write about. After coming up with an idea for my own blues, I found myself rather interested and excited about finishing it. I really like the repetition throughout the poems we read. I have enjoyed learning more about how to write a blues poem.
The style of blues poetry can be a bit confusing, yet full of emotion at the same time. The wording and rhythm of blues poetry leave the reader interested, because many of us can relate to love, romance, hatred, fear, etc. Being able to relate and feel the emotion the poet writes about make each poem all the more inspiring.
