This week we read chapter 2 in Making Your Own Days. The Chapter was about Music, and it really caught my attention! Music is by far one of my favorite things in life and I feel as though there is music in everything that we do. So of course it being in poetry was no surprise! The chapter said a lot about rhyming and patterns, and why and when to use them.
In class on Tuesday we sort of free wrote about an abstract word without using the abstract word...that was fun. I thought it would be a challenge because I was thinking 'How am I supposed to explain something without saying what I'm explaining' I think it turned out well though. For our assignment on Thursday we were told to read a couple of Blues poems and then write a Blues poem. Sometimes I find it hard to read a couple poems and then write one of my own. I always feel like 'wait did I write that or did I just read that and reword it' and then I look back and my poems are nothing like the ones I have read and that makes me wonder if I am doing it wrong. Can you do poetry wrong? I found the Blues poem most challenging because I felt as though it had to be a topic that made me feel blues-y. I also wasn't really sure how long to make it, or any poem for that matter.
I look forward to reading more and writing more in this class and hope I do not scare any of you with my poetry and I promise I will not be offended if you laugh at me, sometimes I just write and I am not sure where it comes from.
