week 3

This week we read chapter three in MYOD, which described other styles, different from music, in poetry language. I learned that apostrophe means addressing objects you normally would not address, comparison is comparing connections between dissimilar objects, personification means giving objects human qualities, and synesthesia is mixing of the senses. After completing the chapter, we wrote our own poems, using at least one example of each new style.

I found writing a poem using apostrophe, comparison, personification, and synesthesia very interesting! It definitely made me write in a way that I have never written before. Currently, I am annotating a poem by Robert Frost, which is somewhat challenging, because there is so many different things to break apart within the poem. Also, I still need to write my own poem in the style of the poem I chose. I purposely chose one that has rhyming words in it, because I find it more exciting. An activity I enjoyed last week was the color walk, because it made me notice many things that I normally wouldn't pay any attention to.

Writing and poetry in general can be creative, but using examples of the different words we read about in chapter three can really make a poem creative. By using examples of these words, not only does the writer have to think differently, but it can be examples that most people don't typically think about, making it more exciting for the reader. It can also put a mental picture in the reader's mind, causing it to be inspiring.
