Post Week 4

This past weeks readings, I thought, were a little harder to understand than anything done so far. The poems in The Plath Cabinet seem to capture a room or a scene more than they did make a point or capture an emotion. I'm sure it's there I just haven't found it. I think one of the things that detracts from me coming to an understanding with the poems is the constant rhyming with words that don't usually go together, such as "Easter eels, elm ticklers" from Sylvia's Bestiary. I have no Idea what Bowman is talking about. Is she saying Plath liked very weird animals, or that perhaps Plath saw things in animals that weren't there, or that Plath was able to attribute features to animals that they didn't naturally have? It's very puzzling to me.
The assignment this week to annotate a poem from The Plath Cabinet felt very easy to me. While I haven't reached an understanding of Bowman I do appreciate the rhyming style and the visualizations she creates. To go through the poems and pick out all the things she was rhyming in each line, most of the time while having a larger rhyme throughout the poem, was really kind of fun and interesting. It made me think more of how much more you can do with in line rhyming that I have been so far. The poem I chose to annotate was "Paper Dolls: Toy Theater". I chose this one because I really liked the constant use of the "Puh" and "Tuh" sounds throughout the poem. Bowman works both into the first line heavy with the p's at first and then fading to the t's during the second and third and then in the last line it is all t's. I thought that transition was interesting to read.
The Poem to write I don't feel I've done the best job to be done with. As I mentioned before the point of Bowman other than to imitate Plath escapes me and so to imitate Bowman felt like a stretch to me so I tried mostly to do it stylistically as opposed to try to mimic her meanings or feelings.
