Week Three.

For the readings of MYOD, I learned a lot about how to use certain types or styles of language in poetry. I read about Apostrophe, which is addressing objects that can not talk back. I read about Synesthesia, which is mixing of the senses. For an example: a desk that tastes sweet. Another style is personification which is giving lifelike qualities to objects. And finally comparisons, which is connecting two dis-similar objects. All of these styles are used to help evoke emotion in the reader. On page 228 in the anthology, I read a poem about an old person being in love, and how they used so many descriptive words to describe how he felt. I really enjoyed that.

The first poem in the anthology we were supposed to read, I found confusing. About the man and the village and how he was struggling to understand something philosophical. I was not quite sure what his point was in the poem. I have to start writing my imitation poem, and do the annotation, but I think the annotation will be hard, unless I find a pretty straight forward poem. I struggle with finding deeper meanings in poems. The poem we annotated in class together, I had no idea where to start to understand the meaning. Hopefully annotation goes well and I can get better at understanding poetry better.

I like imitating poetry because it helps me find a topic, and helps me brainstorm about what I could write, or how I could write in a different way. I do find using apostrophe and synesthesia and personification to be fun and inspirational about ways I could be writing.
