This week the theme in class was the Blues which is a very interesting topic. We had to read a couple of blues poems by some very famous poets and then construct a blues poem of our own. We also did a few in-class assignments with poems and words and how to manipulate them into meaning.
What I really enjoyed this week about the blues was how it is so focused on the use of sounds in the poem. It sounds like a song and in many ways and is constructed to be so. The sounds and uses of speech often found in blues poems is what I loved most about them. It is so different than the average kind of speech I am used to hearing so it is unique and interesting. It also provides a very nice challenge when writing our own blues poem. This week’s theme of the blues was so entertaining and fun to read and learn about.
Inspiration is the theme I believe I am learning the most about this week in the theme of the blues. As I have been reading blues poems, I am starting to realize how deep and emotional a lot of the poems/songs are. I feel that in many of these cases, the poets have dug deep inside themselves to find the right inspiration for their poems. This is inspiring and interesting because one can easily feel and understand what the poet is talking about because of the sounds and the obvious inspiration that came to them. This teaches me about how to look deep in myself to find the right inspiration.
