Second Post!

This week we read about Blues poetry which I found really interesting. I liked their technique of repetition and rhyming. The Blues is supposed to be all about love, heartbreak, and pain, right? So, I think the repetition and rhyming is great way to emphasize the pain, heartbreak, and love. Especially with Bessie Smith’s poem, her repetition made me feel the pain and see that Mountain. I’ve really enjoyed the Blues poetry this past week.

Currently I’ve only been working on my Blues poem. I’ve got the repetition and even rhyming down but I can’t seem to make sense of the third stanza. I have hit a block on that stanza and can’t seem to get any inspiration for it. Truthfully, I thought this poem would be easier to write since the majority of my poetry seems to deal with the basics of a Blues poem, but it turned out to be a bit of a struggle. I’m sure I’ll figure it out though.

Ethical issues dealing with the arts? Well…I’ve found it scarily easy to reuse a line or phrase from some poets in my own poetry. Is this common? Personally, I think I’d be a tad upset if people were doing this with my poetry so I would say it’s unethical, obviously its plagiarism. But I suppose if it worked with the poem and you had permission or at least mentioned where you got the phrase from it would be okay. I don’t know! Ethical issues are just confusing to me.
