The First Assignment

This week the reading was interesting, a lot of things that I was told about early on in high school English that I paid no attention to are now coming back to surface. The line breaks, repetition, and similar sounds for rhyming. The assignment was tough because it is the first poem I have tried to write in a long time, and it was difficult to break down a poem and try to write one in the same style as the author.
To continue with the assignment I have had trouble breaking down a poem, marking it up and just analyzing the word for what the word is. When it is hard or soft, the sounds, slanted rhymes that is just a start to my troubles that I have with poems. Just an off topic idea that I’ve had since last Monday was drawing a picture of Mount Rushmore but instead of the presidents faces, it would be the Ninja Turtles, for some reason that has been on my mind because of something that happened last Monday in this class. Another spark was just the chapter itself made me want to look up some lyrics to some songs I didn’t know and just read the words without the beat to see the rhyme and other aspects of the lyrics.
This chapter has made music (obviously) interesting. I had a lot of fun over the last few days listening to music. All sorts of genres, Rap, Hip Hop, Rock, Country, Classical and then generational music going back to the 50’s. I couldn’t hear rhyme or see rhyme in all the songs but there were common songs I had heard so many times that all of a sudden a slanted rhyme stood out in the chorus that made the song really work out and sound good. My cousin who is in a band just recently talked about how he has sit in on poetry classes down at IU Bloomington to pick up ideas that he likes.
