Blog Entry #2

This week was cut short due to Labor Day on Monday. On Wednesday, we go into groups and shared our poems that we individually composed. Our poems imitated a writing style of a poet of our choosing. Shortly afterwards, we began learning about concrete and abstract details. At the end of class, we touched upon the blues. The concept of concrete and abstact is not new to me, but the way it was presented on Wednesday added clarity to my understanding. The in-class exercise following the lesson, in which we took an abstract idea and defined it using concrete specific details, help me to reinforce my prior understanding. I enjoyed listening to the blues poem in class. At first, I was a bit unsure if I would like it. I normally do not enjoy slow pace music. I always had a mentality of being to quick to judge music, especially if it was in slow rhythm. Giving it a chance and a listening to it, made me change my opinion about the blues. The only struggle I had this week, was with the assignment we had to make a blues poem. It was a bit of a challenge fullfilling the requirements.I learned that in the artistic process to create art, poems, drawings, or anything that relates to art; at first may sound like a easy task to complete of the previously mentioned task, but it is not all that easy. Inspiration plays a critical role in composing art, without it will lack substance. Inspiration is the fuel behind the creativity of the mind.
