Blog 3

Alot of interesting things were introduced and learned this week during class! We were taught about toxic garbage, metaphors and similies heard in poems, annotating and what apostrophe, synethisa and comparison are. I really enjoyed listening to the poem with the metaphors and similies in it because it wasn't just the usual metaphors being said, it was comparing a noun to a verb in ways I've never heard and learned. Another thing that fascinated me, was annotating the poem in class. At first I would have never saw all the different connections being made but after Mrs. Rolffs went over it with us exampling what was hidden, it was amazing to see what you can find after looking and thinkning about it closer!
Reading chapter three this week was also very helpful. It discussed how comparisons are used in a poem and what they actually do. For instance comparison is used to clarify something, which usually makes it sounds more exciting and vivid. In the book they used " Passes like a flying tulip, lights and nails the green day dawn" as a good example to get a better understanding of it. In this they used a simile to help the comparison sound more effective. One hting that still confuses me that was discussed in the chapter was apostrophe and personifying ideas, concepts and objects. I kind of understand that it makes connections to the non-living or non-human things, but I need more explainings on how to use it when writting a poem.
All in all, the things taught this week were very helpful! Doing the metaphor and annotating exercise in class definatly helped my understanding on what to do for the homework and I'm not going into it confused as I was for writing the poem that was due Monday!
