Week 5

The fan has dust discoloring the round metal grate that keeps fingers safe from its blades. The dust turns the once white bars of the cage grey in spots, and the blades within are almost black on some of the edges. An oscillating head moves from right to left from left to right as if trying to see as much of the room at one time as possible. As the head reaches the extreme of its view on either side it makes a small clicking and turns back.

It is at about waist high now but has a small knob on the post that it can be adjusted. This entire post remains the bright yet flat white that the fan was when it was new. Down at the round base of the appliance however the dust is again the fan’s guest along with scratches and marks from being drug from room to room.

On the back of the cage there is a motor with a long white cord coming out and bent wavy like bacon works its way to the outlet. The cord is mostly white while being a little discolored the closer to the fan it gets.

This assignment was a little trickier than I thought it would be. It was easy to pick an item I could write 200 words about. I just chose something with a little character... or rather something with a little dust. The tricky part was finding a way to word what I wanted to say to make what I was writing about an oscillating fan interesting at all. I mean after all at the end of the day it is just a fan.
