This week in class we presented our journals and revised our first piece of work for the soon to be class journal. Although, I haven't got to present my journal yet because we ran out of time but I'm ready to present for Monday. At first I didn't know what was going on because I missed a class, but from watching and learning from everyones presentations Monday I now know what to do and was very helpful. I'm doing my presentation on a CALYX journal and I really enjoyed learning about it, as well as all the other journals presented in class.
Wednesday's class was really enjoyable. We were divided into groups and did a workshop on our revised poems and stories. I really enjoyed this because it gave me different perspectives on what to look for when writing or even after writing. We all had a chance to read our piece of work then had to be silent while we got helpful criticism. It was really interesting how we couldn't talk when our piece was being over viewed because we couldn't tell them what our work really meant, or was about. Things discussed were principles that caught our eye, intriguing details, what kind of perspective was the work, and whether or not it was summary or lyric. Doing this workshop was defiantly inspiring because it helped me find things that I wouldn't notice about other work and elements even in my work. Like I said, I really liked this workshop and enjoyed hearing how different everyone's poems and stories were. I thought my group did a really good job and we will defiantly have a awsome class journal when its time to put it together!
Looking at the 22 ways to revise helped me decide on what I needed to change or fix about my poem. I didn't have as much trouble changing it as I thought I expected and found it sort of fun revising. Now we have to revise our second piece of work, which is what I'm about to do now and I think I should have no problem with it because I learned alot from the workshop on Wednesday! Except I do need to work on remembering that poems should have a title and not use cliche or common words when revising. That should be my only problem but I think I'll do fine!
