Week 10

So this week we got to do some workshopping. which was fun! It turned out better than I expected it to, and it was fun being able to read others' work and actually give them some feedback on it. Of course, I was a little nervous at first, but I got over it. I tried to remember all the things I have ever heard about critiquing someone's work, and then chose the bits of advice that had rung the most true to me. I tried to be as courteous as possible while still giving advice. Besides, everyone's writing that I've read so far is awesome! I really liked some of the poems I've read and how they had such different perspectives on things.

However, there is one thing I am extremely worried about, and that is being able to revise a work significantly three times. It's even worse that sometimes, since I've been writing so long, I revise as I go, ot realizing that it'll will make revising further harder in the long run. I just don't know if I'll be able to change up the pieces I have enough to really have them qualified as revised, and that makes me worry because of how important it is for the portfolio. I just don't know what to do about it. And what if I like how it came out originally, and every revision after that sounds or falls flat to me? Can I just switch it up and say that the original is the one I prefer, as long as I have four different copies of the poem/story? I really don't know.

Inspiration came to me this week though! It happened out of nowhere, and I think that out of nowhere inspiration is my favorite kind. I was walking away from my creative writing course, thinking about the different points of view that both classes had discussed. I lingered on second person, thinking of how I could never work with it because it just sounded so awkward to me. And then I was thinking, "Well, how would you use it?" which led to a piece I'm rather proud of. So it just goes to show that inspiration can hit you like an anvil!
